The Sailboat Page!

Here are my sailboats, a Dumas Lightning, a 19 inch (1:12 scale) of the lightning class sailboat.

The larger boat is a Tom Protheroe Model Boat Works (Santa Barbra CA) RC Sailboat. The hull line is called "Epic" and mine is number 93.

It has some damage to the deck and is missing the keel and rudder, so into my hobby fabrication shop she goes for a re-fit and repair. I'll make a new custom stand and cast a new keel weight for her.

Dumas kit 1110

Length: 19 inches

Beam: 6-1/2 inches

Mast: 26 inches

Tom Protheroe "Epic" model Sailboat

The Protheroe label is inside the hull. Fortnately this was stamped on the inside so I had somewhere to start looking for information on specifications and restoration. Hull is a hand laid fiberglass 50/500 being just over 50 inches long and 500 square inces of sail and the aluminum mast is over 6 feet tall.

Statistics: Hull Length = 50 inches

Beam at widest point = 10 inches

Mast Height = 80 and 3/8th inches

Boom lengths: 14.25 and 13.25 inches respectively

Keel: Exact dimensions are not known as I don't have it. From online sources of similar sailboats I believe the keel to be between 18 and 20 inches long with a weight between 6lbs12oz and 7lbs8oz.

Rudder: I don't have it either but sources indicate a 4.5 to 6 inch long by 2.5 wide at the widest point tapering down to 1 inch is optimal.
