Space Battleship Yamato

Aka: Star Blazers

This is one of the earliest series I ever watched and got me hooked on Anime.

Space Battleship Yamato (or, alternately, Space Cruiser Yamato) is the English title for the Japanese science fiction anime series, created by Leiji Matsumoto. It is better known to American audiences as Star Blazers, the name under which an English-dubbed (and partly censored) version of the series was broadcast on American television. Created in 1973 and aired in 1974.

Being a model builder and Anime Otaku, I knew I had to have this kit.

This is the 1/500 scale model kit of the Space Battleship Yamato. I believe its the largest scale kit made for this series.

In the American release the ship was re-named the Argo. This kit is about 22 inches long and 6 inches high. I believe it is no longer in production but is highly detailed with moving gun turrets and movable control surfaces. The kit includes a stand, decals and even a red service robot model kit is included (larger scale than the ship of course) Full color box with character profiles/pics makes this a great collectable kit.

Here is the book which contains cel images and overlays. Out of print for a very long time, I recently obtained a copy from Yahoo Japan auction site. It has several cels from the show with overlays.
